For the past twenty-four years Natalie has been a professional nurse at a large community hospital. As a registered nurse, she certainly knew what to tell her patients when it came to their health problems but in her off-duty life, nonetheless, she definitely didn’t practice what she preached. For example, she frequently drank quite extensively, she never got into physical exercise, she smoked at least a pack of cigarettes everyday, and she was more or less ten pounds overweight.

Natalie Gets Into A Traffic Accident, Fails A Breathalyzer Test, and Goes to The County Jail

One afternoon on her way to the hospital, Natalie got into an automobile accident. Due to the fact that the accident was her fault and since her speech was jumbled when she spoke, the arresting highway patrolman administered a breathalyzer test. In concurrence with standard law enforcement operating procedures, when an individual is involved in a car accident and tests positive for a breathalyzer test, the individual has to spend at least six hours in the local jail.

Actually, Natalie should have known better than to drive after she was drinking because she recently attended an “alcohol abuse awareness” class at the hospital that centered on issues, statistics, and information about alcohol facts such as the following: alcohol poisoning, DUIs, binge drinking, and the primary differences between alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction.

Natalie is Quite Embarrassed About Her Vehicle Accident

Needless to say, Natalie felt ashamed of her car accident. Not only this but she felt disgraced about the fact that the accident was her fault. And possibly worst of all, she was quite embarrassed about the fact that she was driving after she ingested a few drinks. As Natalie contemplated this event, however, she understood that it could have been a lot worse because at work, when a blood test for alcohol is administered and failed, the person has to go to mandatory alcohol rehab and is placed on non-pay status. This was merely one of the alcohol facts that was a reality at her place of employment and not much could change this fact.

Natalie’s Embarrassment and Depression About Her Automobile Accident Helps Motivate Her To Reevaluate Her Life and Make Some Significant and Healthy Changes

In any event, Natalie’s disgrace about her vehicle accident forced her to review her life and make some remarkable and beneficial changes. First, she was going to stop drinking in a hazardous and excessive manner. Second, she was going to quit smoking. Third, she was going to go on a weight-loss diet. And fourth, she was going to start exercising.

As disconcerted and depressed as Natalie was about the entire vehicle accident situation, she used this embarrassing experience as a catalyst for beneficial change. Moreover, she used her heartrending experience as a real eye opener that she had been overlooking her own health while she professionally told other individuals how to live a more healthy life. At last, she eventually saw the double standard in her actions and came to a decision that she would live her life as a constructive example for others.
